Preparing for your session

Pilates

Pilates has the ability to change the shape of your body. Many of our deeply ingrained movement patterns are the result of years wearing restrictive clothing.

  • Please, for your session, wear comfortable clothing. Tight clothing and synthetic, non-breathable fabrics are not recommended. You will be asked to engage and disengage your abdominals. If your pant waistline digs into your belly, you will not be able to perform breathing exercises to your fullest expression and the contour of your abdominals will not be free to change.

  • Alternatively, extremely loose clothing may get caught in the equipment or make it challenging to correct alignment. If it falls down over your head when you bend over, it is too loose.

  • It is best to do Pilates with bare feet. If you prefer socks, please wear socks with treads. Socks without treads are a safety hazard and will not be allowed.

Structural Integration

Structural Integration and any type of fascial bodywork is made possible through skin to skin contact.

  • Please make sure your skin is free of lotion or body oil, this includes your face and scalp. If you applied lotion or oil earlier in the day or the day before, and have not showered, it is still on your skin. Fascial bodywork is impossible to perform if you’re wearing lotion and your session will have to be rescheduled if you do not comply.

  • Remember, Structural Integration is not a massage. You will not be draped during this session. Please be sure to wear comfortable undergarments. For women, underwear and bra or a 2-piece bathing suit are best. Choose a bra that exposes as much of your back as possible and underwear that exposes the hip. For men, briefs or boxer briefs are best. Please do not wear boxer shorts.

  • Please do not wear anything too tight. Especially avoid heavy lycra or other restrictive materials. Bicycle shorts, girdles, and other compressive undergarments are not recommended.
